Leather safety footwear is made from various tanning methods, one of which is genuine chrome-tanned leather. Many years ago, this material was widely used in the production of military footwear for officers, where it demonstrated its high protective properties. Today, chrome-tanned leather is used to make a wide range of safety footwear.
Materials and tanning process
Chrome leather is produced from cattle hides treated with several types of chromium salts. The tanning process takes 8 to 12 hours in specially designed rotating drums.
There are 2 processing methods used:
-
- Single-bath tanning based on an aqueous solution of chromium sulfate salts;
-
- Double tanning using chrome alum, a solution of bichromate and sulfuric acid.
Depending on the raw material selected, chrome leathers with different characteristics are produced. The most common materials are those made from calf, foal, and pig hides. These are characterized by high strength and elasticity, allowing for the creation of durable safety footwear with high protective properties.
Using different types of chrome leather finishes, materials with a naturally smooth, fuzzy, or lacquered surface are created. This process is used to create velvety nubuck and velour models, which have established themselves as high-quality materials in the market.

Advantages
Work footwear made from chrome-plated leather is popular due to its combination of practicality and durability. Shoes and boots made from this material are used by employees of various companies and law enforcement agencies.
Chrome-tanned footwear is flexible and comfortable. Genuine leather of this type is highly absorbent and durable. The unique properties of this material allow us to create reliable safety footwear that is resistant to harsh external influences, such as impacts, friction, and repeated bending.
Thanks to high-quality tanning, long-term wear of chrome-plated safety footwear does not cause discomfort or joint strain. A comfortable temperature is maintained inside the boots , preventing feet from sweating or overheating.

Care tips
To maintain a neat appearance , chrome-plated safety shoes should be regularly cleaned and treated with special products. After each use, remove surface dirt with a soft sponge and warm water. Do not use a washing machine or harsh detergents.
After cleaning , chrome shoes should be wiped with a dry cloth and treated with a care product. The material dries quickly, so leaving the item at room temperature is sufficient. Avoid contact with heating devices.
With regular and proper care, chrome shoes will last for many years.
