Proper care of special purpose clothing

Proper care of special purpose clothing

Special-purpose clothing requires special care, but proper care can only be achieved if the manufacturer's instructions are followed. First and foremost, special-purpose clothing should not be issued to employees for home use, as failure to comply with washing requirements will cause most suits to deteriorate, lose their unique and important properties, and require urgent replacement, which entails the need for a new supply and additional expenses.

Who is responsible for this care?

According to Article 221 of the Labor Code, employers are obligated to provide their employees with personal protective equipment and arrange for its storage, repair, replacement, washing, and drying. This means that the care of special-purpose clothing and footwear must be carried out by the organization.

How to care for special-purpose clothing?

In this case, the employer faces two options:
- establishing an in-house laundry facility to ensure proper care of personal protective equipment
; - hiring a contractor to perform the aforementioned activities in accordance with required norms and standards.

The second option is much more cost-effective and simpler. By transferring all duties and responsibilities to a contractor, you eliminate a multitude of processes that must be monitored and implemented.

PROSAFE's recommendations for washing workwear:

Each item of clothing has a tag with all necessary instructions. Laundry staff must strictly adhere to the recommended washing, drying, and ironing temperatures. Otherwise, protective workwear will lose its unique properties and become unsafe.

Three methods of cleaning the surface of workwear are used, with varying degrees of effectiveness, from gentle to more aggressive. These include standard machine washing, wet cleaning, and dry cleaning. The preferred cleaning method depends on the amount of soiling.
